| Moonrise Resort was built sometime in the 1950's and started out as a little "fish camp". Over the years Moonrise has seen many changes and a few different owners. Mike & Sue Ellen were high school sweethearts that grew up in Muncie Indiana. They moved to Florida in 1986 and bought Moonrise Resort. That's when their never ending renovation of Moonrise started. | October 2005 I just wanted to drop you a letter thanking you for your hospitality while we were there. We loved it there, who could ask for anything better than being able to get up early morning and sit on the porch of my cabin and watch the sunrise on the lake. I have never stayed at a place as clean and well maintained as your place, and believe me, I have stayed at a lot of places. I was very shocked when we arrived and opened our door. It was beautiful inside. Having all the things that you need in the cabin was also another plus, being able to rent the pontoon boat was also very cool, we love being out on the water. | May 30, 2002 Dear Sue Ellen and Mike, Alice and I want to "Thank You" for such a wonderful stay at the Moonrise Resort. We had a great time the 12 days we stayed there. The cabin was beautifully decorated, organized and very clean. We really enjoyed sitting on the swings in the "Seventh Heaven Circle". We met some wonderful and friendly people down there. The lake scenery was beautiful, especially the sunrise in the morning with the glare on the lake. We will definetly recommend the resort to our relatives and friends. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Everything was spectacular, from the cabins to the recreation room to the scenery to your usual friendly personalities. MY "scouts" absolutely fell in love with "Camp Moonrise", just like me. They are now looking forward to the 2nd Annual Girl Scrap Scout Camp Retreat! (Now that I've had a few weeks to recover, I can positively say that yes, there will be a 2nd Annual!!!) Nearly everyone agreed that besides getting lots of scrapbooking done, their favorite part of "Camp Moonrise" was sitting on the benches around the fire, looking at Lake Tsala Apopka and chatting with each other. When they told me this, I just got a big silly grin on my face and said, "This is one of my favorite places in the whole world, and I'm so glad you like it too!" We even saw an owl near by on the night of our weenie roast-several scouts got pictures of him and, no doubt about it, there will be many scrapbook pages about it! Above all else, your hospitality and friendliness was 125%! You went above and beyond in accommodating us 29 crazy scrap-a-holic women, thank you for putting up with our craziness! We had so much fun! I still can't believe you located an iron for the wacky members of mobile #19, the Cropping Campfire Divas!! Thank you so much for everything! Without you both, and Moonrise Resort, Girl Scrap Scout Camp would be nothing but a crazy idea. With you both and "Camp Moonrise", Girl Scrap Scout Camp was a wonderful experience that gave us all great memories, new friends and an awesome annual event to look forward to! I can think of no other place I would ever want to host Girl Scrap Scout Camp-Moonrise Resort is so AWESOME!!! With many, many thanks, |
